Wichita Falls Smoking Ordinance Now in Effect

- The smoking ordinance is now in effect in Wichita Falls with some temporary exemptions.

Some businesses have made their own signs advising smokers where they can light up.

However, the health district received a federal grant to print about 200 signs to give to businesses on a first come first serve basis.

And the health district expects to have those signs in early next week.

Here's a quick review of the ordinance which includes tobacco and electronic cigarettes.

It bans smoking in public places, within 20 feet of the entrance of a public place, or 5 feet if the place is open only to those 18 and older, such as bars.

But you can still smoke inside those type of businesses for another two years and in restaurants that have separate smoking sections now.

That two year grandfather clause does not apply to businesses that open after June 17th, which would have to ban smoking immediately.

Tobacco and electronic cigarette stores are exempt from the ban.
