Police say Christine Okonkwo agreed to file income taxes but the people never received their refunds. One woman said she contacted Okonkwo after seeing an ad offering income taxes filed free of charge.
She said she met her at a McDonald's restaurant and Okonkwo did the work on a laptop and told her she would be receiving a check in the mail within 10 days for about $4,900.
A month later the woman contacted police and an officer spoke to Okonkwo. The officer told her three people claimed she had promised them refunds they never got. The officer says Okonkwo said two of the names were not familiar to her and that she did not take anyone's money and that she ran a cleaning business and didn't even do her own taxes.
However police obtained video from the restaurant showing Okonkwo sitting with the woman and working on a laptop. They also say IRS documents show a return for the first victim was filed and it was electronically transferred to an account in San Antonio belonging to Okonkwo.
