Woman arrested for DWI after jeep flips, catches fire

WICHITA FALLS - A 27-year-old-old Wichita Falls woman is arrested for drunk driving after an accident Saturday night in front of the Chuck E. Cheese on Southwest Parkway.

Lauren Elizabeth Cooper is charged with driving while intoxicated.

According to the police report, police found a Jeep on fire and facing south with its front against a tree. A woman was sitting on the curb near the vehicle.

A witness to the accident told police he was traveling east when the westbound Jeep suddenly made a sharp left turn and crossed all three lanes of traffic in front of him, then struck a tree which caused it to flip upside down.

He said he made a u-turn and went back to assist.  He said Cooper was lying on the roof of the upside-down Jeep and was unconscious.

The man said he could not get the doors open and that the Jeep was smoking.

He and others then pushed the Jeep right side up, and another person broke out a rear window, which caused the front passenger door to unlock.

The witness said Cooper then fell out of the Jeep.

Police were able to talk to Cooper and say she admitted to having, ”two or three shots” earlier.

Because of her injuries, officers did not perform field sobriety test but charged her with  DWI because of her erratic driving, admission to drinking, the odor of alcohol on her breath and slurred speech.
