Woman Gets Prison Time for Forgery and Fraud Charges

- A woman arrested in connection with a forgery ring that falsified Wichita County payroll checks is sentenced to prison time for her involvement.

Thirty-four year-old Michelle Scott pleaded guilty to engaging in organized criminal activity for forgery, two counts of forgery, one count of fraud for possession or use of identifying information, and one count of credit card abuse.

She's sentenced to five years in prison.

Scott was charged with forgery in connection with a paycheck cashed at Lowe's Grocery Store in Iowa Park.

The check was presented as a payroll check from a senior health care company on a Wells Fargo account.

An Iowa Park detective was told by that company they did not bank at Wells Fargo and had no employee by the suspect's name.

The detective contacted the Wichita County Sheriff's Office and was told Scott had just been released on bond from other forgery charges.

Investigators also believe Scott was a prime organizer of a scheme in which many Wichita County payroll checks were forged.
