Days later, Macias died from his injuries. Doan received very serious injuries and continues her recovery.
July is notorious for hot weather in Texoma and because thieves can't hide from the heat, they took matters into their own hands: attempting to steal and eventually stealing Camp Fire's air conditioning units.
Karen Bayless was charged with theft under $20,000 after the third Camp Fire's A.C. had been tampered with. Officers say he had stolen the A.C. unit.
Two days later in San Antonio, a Wichita Falls native announces he wants to be the next governor of the state of Texas. Current Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott made that announcement July 15th on the 29th anniversary of a freak accident that paralyzed him below the waist. A falling oak tree crushed his back while jogging and he's now confined to a wheelchair.
The next day, Abbott returned to his childhood home in Wichita Falls to find out what his constituents want from him during his race for the governor seat.
That same day, a man found guilty in June of murdering a Comanche County couple in 2009 was sentenced to death. Mica Martinez is set to die by lethal injection after being found guilty on 2 counts of first degree murder for the deaths of 55 year old Martha and 64 year Carl Miller.
They were killed in 2009 at their home off Highway 115, south of Cache, in Comanche County. Both died in the hospital following the attacks. One of their sons was also attacked, but was able to call 9-1-1 and restrained Martinez until help could arrive.
The victim's family says the process has been long and at times, unbearable and says justice won't be served until Martinez's death sentence is carried out.
Martinez was also convicted on one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
At the end of that week, Wichita Falls and surrounding residents were alarmed when they awoke to a loud bang and saw huge plumes of smoke over Pecanway Drive. A Sheppard Air Force Base T-38 jet crashed.
Colonel Lance Bunch says the two pilots, a student and an instructor, survived the crash with minor injuries.
In December, Sheppard officials would announce a bird strike was the cause of that crash.
