The Humane Society of Young County has received its largest donation since it announced that money problems could force the shelter to close next week.

According to Executive Director Kim Baxter, an organization has donated $7,000 to the humane society.

But Baxter says that amount, coupled with numerous smaller donations, is not enough to keep the shelter's doors open.

She says she also plans to ask Young County commissioners to increase their annual budget from $17,500 to $34,000, the amount the City of Graham gives the shelter each year.

But before next week's budget hearings start another fundraiser is planned to help the shelter.

Employees at Holiday Inn Express Hotel" in Graham will hold a bake sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Walmart.

All proceeds will go to the Humane Society of Young County.
