Ten year old Jurni Flickinger has a congenital heart defect.
She's had several open heart surgeries in her short life and will have another one next month.
So, to help her parents with mounting medical bills a benefit is set that will shake up donations for Jurni's procedure.
Ten year old Jurni Flickinger spends a great deal of time on her cell phone but taking part in more strenuous activities, like cheerleading, is off limits now because it's too taxing on her heart.
A few hours after her birth her mother learned she had a congenital heart defect.
By the time she was eight months old she had already had two open heart surgeries.
"They replaced her pulmonary valve when she was five and the porcine valves they they use only last 5 to 15 years. But then they noticed a leak in her aorta about a year and a half ago and with that leak, her heart became enlarged," says Carrie Flickinger, Jurni's mother.
Now, Jurni needs a fourth open heart surgery to replace her aeorta... As well as a heart valve.
So to help the family with the upcoming procedure, a family friend who is also a fitness instructor at Powerhouse Gym, plans to raise donations by getting folks moving and shaking during a zumba benefit for Jurni.
"I asked the owner of Powerhouse Gym and he was more than willing to allow us to do this. He was like, tell me what you need and we can get this done," says Adriana Limon, co-coordinator of Zumba Event for Jurni.
And while planning for the event Jurni decided that participants will warm up with this a popular dance craze.
The Zumba Benefit for Jurni is this Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Powerhouse Gym.
The cost is $10 per person and that money will go toward Jurni's surgery.
If you can't make it to the Zumba event, three more ways you can donate are listed below.
