When it comes to commercial advertising, you usually think of Madison Avenue or
big downtown offices.
But, it’s also centered at Hirschi High School.
As part of an assignment, 10th graders were asked to create a commercial for any
product they chose.
Adam Owens and his group decided to actively seek out real clients at the TO fair
And they found one.
"I talked to Gary Keeno. He owns Keeno's Jerky and uh I talked to him at the fair
about making a commercial for his company and uh he actually whenever he talked
about doing it, he said that he would rather do it for a charity competition," says Owens.
So Owens and his group used the school's camera gear and editing software to
create a public service announcement for the North Texas Megabucks Competition
put on by Keeno's Steakhouse Jerky.
The team used skills they learned in class to shoot and edit the video.
"I was one of the first ones to get to the store to film. So, I took a few videos and
I've been helping editing.”
The project is still in production and they are now in the process of recording the
voice over for the PSA.
The team knew they had to find just the right voice to get the job done. Though she
was a little apprehensive at first
"So they were kind of like...well…you should be our voice over. And I was like okay."
Creating local commercials and PSAs is a great accomplishment for these students.
Hirschi High has a long history of running a successful and award-winning video
And without a doubt, the skills they are learning in Hirschi High's video production
classes will go a long way.
If you have a business or charity event that you would like to give these students the
opportunity to try their hand at creating a commercial, contact the Hirschi High School
