Montague County to Settle Lawsuit

Montague County commissioners are still dealing with the fallout from the jail scandal under former sheriff Bill Keating's leadership.
Earlier this week, commissioners voted to settle one of the final lawsuits that have been filed ... officials say there have been several.
Sheriff Paul Cunningham took office in 2009, and exposed numerous problems -- including a fire alarm system that had failed inspection ... major plumbing, mechanical, and paint issues ... and a great deal of damage caused by inmates.
Cunningham says this most recent lawsuit is not covered by the Texas Association of Counties insurance ... because it dealt with issues that were in violation of the law.
He says the insurance did cover lawsuits dealing with things that happened under the cover of the law.
After an investigation, former Sheriff Bill Keating turned himself in to law enforcement and was charged with improper sexual activity with a person in custody.
In all, 17 people were indicted on 106 counts.
Keating died at home a day before his sentencing.
