Arapahoe High School Recovering from Friday's Shooting

(NBCNC) Residents of Centennial, Colorado are still struggling to cope after a student opened fire at Arapahoe High School Friday.

Just over a minute after the shooter entered the school the violence was over, leaving one student fighting for her life and the gunman dead from an apparent self-inflected gun shot.

Classes have been canceled this week in the wake the shooting.

Student Joe Redmond said he spoke to the gunman, 18-year-old Karl Pierson, last Monday about possibly rejoining the debate team, and was shocked by what happened Friday.

"It's tough looking forward to see when things are going to happen, but looking back I can definitely make connections," Redmond said.
