Fort Hood Survivors - Texas

Fort Hood, Texas is preparing for a memorial service this week to honor those killed in last Thursday's shooting.

As crews prepare for the memorial some of the wounded are celebrating with personal reunions.

Witnesses say when the bullets began to fly 19-year-old Army nutritionist Amber Bahr rushed to help the wounded, not realizing she had been hit until she took a fellow soldier to the hospital.

Private Joseph Foster is happy to be with his family after taking a bullet in the hip.

The wound has slowed his step, but not his spirit.

"When anything like this happens, we just get stronger," he says.

Finding that strength may be most difficult for the 13 families who won't have the chance for a reunion, lost not on the front lines but in a place where most of the soldiers felt safe enough to lay their weapons down.
