Furlough Rollback Considered

At Reagan Airport in Washington Thursday there were more delayed flights.

Most of the delays were due to fewer air traffic controllers on duty.

Furloughs started Sunday, forced by sequestration.

Coast to coast thousands of flights are being delayed daily.

Travelers aren't sure who to blame, but they're not happy.

A proposed fix could take effect fast.

Republican Senator Susan Collins is pushing a plan to give the Federal Aviation Administration leeway not now allowed under sequestration: Transferring cash for airport improvements to pay controllers and end the furloughs.

Some Democrats are on board, as are many House Republicans.

President Obama has reversed his position and signaled support as well.

He had hoped the  pain of sequester would reflect poorly on Republicans for blocking his proposed budget.

Still, fixing the snarl is not a done deal.

Some Democrats, led by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, are resisting, holding out for major Republican concessions on taxes and spending.
