GOP Lawmakers Promote Defunding of ObamaCare

A nine-city, nationwide town hall bus tour is underway to whip up support to defund Obamacare. While supporters are trying to build momentum, a growing number of GOP lawmakers are now questioning the potential political fallout of trying to dismantle the affordable care act.

It's a bus tour that'll hit nine cities in 11 days, but some question whether the tour is headed in the right direction.

After a kick off last night in Arkansas, the town hall road show rolls on this morning. Next stop - Dallas. "This is an urgent time to stop what we think is a destructive law," said Former Senator Jim Demint, (R) South Carolina.

"And there is no more important piece of regulatory reform that we can do than to repeal every single word of Obamacare," said Senator Ted Cruz, (R) Texas.

Senator Cruz and the Heritage Foundation are hoping to whip up enough support to gut President Obama's Affordable Care Act. "The one unifying principle in the Republican Party at the moment is making sure that 30 million people don't have health care," said President Barack Obama.

This, as a potential government shutdown looms. The sticking point is whether government funding and healthcare funding should be linked.

The question is whether these town halls help republicans gain momentum. "We're here, we're loud we're proud and we're going to fight tooth and nail to make sure congress stops this foolishness," declared Tyler Clark, Chair, Washington County Democrats.

Two progressive groups are planning counter-protests outside the town halls...while other groups are spreading the word in television ads.

Fears though, even among some Republicans that this could backfire losing support for a Republican party trying to rebuild itself. "Shutdowns are not a good move at all. Most Americans are center-right and want limited government," said Governor Scott Walker, (R) Wisconsin.

After Dallas today the tour stays mostly in the eastern part of the country. It wraps up next week in Wilmington, Delaware.
