(KSHB) The search and recovery phase of the Ottawa, Kansas quadruple-murder case has concluded, Sheriff Jeff Richards said Sunday afternoon, and the investigation into what happened on a rural farm in Franklin County continues.
Authorities said at a 1 a.m. news conference Sunday that they found what they believe to be the body of 18-month-old Lana Bailey in Osage County after days of intensive searching.
Later Sunday afternoon, they said they believe she was killed on the farm with her 21-year-old mother Kaylie, then moved to the undisclosed location where she was found.
Lana and Kaylie were reported missing May 3. Kaylie's body was found on the farm Tuesday, along with the bodies of two men.
Lana's body was found Saturday night when an Osage County sheriff's deputy found evidence related to the case, prompting further searches in the area. Just after 10 p.m., they located a body.
"There was no tip that led us to her body," Sherriff Richards said at a news conference Sunday afternoon. "This was just good police work."
