Unemployment benefits rose just slightly last week. Applications increased 4,000 to a seasonally adjusted 371-thousand.
Weekly applications for unemployment benefits are considered an indication of layoffs since last January, and they have remained between 360-thousand and 390-thousand. And in the past 12 months, an average of 153-thousand jobs have been added each month.
