Missing Detroit Boy Mystery Deepens

(WDIV) A 12-year-old Detroit, Michigan boy who had been missing for a week and a half and was the subject of an extensive search is out of the hospital and has been released to his mother after he was found alive and well in the basement of his father's home.

On Thursday, a day after Charlie Bothuell V was found, police took his 37-year-old stepmother, Monique Dillard-Bothuell, into custody on a parole violation. The warrant was issued on Monday. She was on parole for purchasing a pistol without a permit. Her 4-year-old son and 10-month-old daughter were taken from the home by Child Protective Services while Detroit police investigate alleged abuse. Dillard-Bothuell is the wife of Charlie's father, Charlie Bothuell IV.

Young Charlie was reported missing after his father said he disappeared on June 16.

Officers discovered the boy on Wednesday while serving a search warrant on the home as part of their investigation into his disappearance. It's not clear if the boy had been there the entire time; officers had been inside the home before and cadaver dogs searched the house last week.
