Making progress - that's President Obama's message as he heads to Mexico Thursday - where immigration will take center stage.
Several of the President's second term goals seem up in the air, but President Obama says he's not underwater yet.
Hammered by budget cuts and his failed effort to pass gun control, President Obama tells reporters: don't count me out yet. "I'm actually confident that there are a range of things that we're going to be able to get done," declared President Barack Obama.
Like immigration reform. "That's going to be a historic achievement," said The President.
The president heads to Mexico tomorrow with a bill moving through congress. The question is whether or not it will get through congress - analysts think it can: "the reason he can get it done is because republicans don't dare turn those Hispanic voters down," said CNBC Chief Washington Correspondent John Harwood.
Not so optimistic on the budget. Meat inspectors and air traffic controllers got a pass, but the President says, "that's not a solution."
With a hunger strike underway, he's determined to try to close Guantanamo Bay, again, but says -- not so fast on dealing with Syria: "If we end up rushing to judgment without hard, effective evidence, then we can find ourselves in the position where we can't mobilize the international community to support what we do." Lawmakers who went back home this week are also under fire. "I am just wondering why the burden of my mother being gunned down in the halls of her elementary school isn't more important than that," says Erica Lafferty whose Mother was killed at Sandy Hook.
"Let me just say, I'm obviously so sorry[.]"All of us want to make sure that doesn't happen again," said Senator Kelly Ayotte, (R) New Hampshire.
Headed back to deal with part two of The President's agenda.
