The most senior representative in the US House of Representatives, and Texas native passed away late Tuesday night.

The 89-year-old democrat, Jack Brooks, spent 42 years representing his Southeast Texas district that includes Beaumont.

Brooks was among the last links to an era when democrats dominated Texas and national politics.

Brooks was in the Dallas motorcade the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated and he was aboard Air Force One later that day when Johnson took the oath of office.
