Fans of some historic Texas and U.S. flags don't need to head to a museum to view the colorful banners.

The Texas State Archives has unveiled a collection of 40 historic flags in an online exhibit.

The division of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission on Thursday announced the display featuring digitized versions of the flags and explanations. Archivist Jelai Chubb says there's always been a great deal of interest in the group's collection.

Officials say the flags present Texas and U.S. history going back to the 1830s. The earliest flags date from the Texas Revolution. Most are from the Civil War.

Three of the flags showcased online are also on display in the lobby of the commission's Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building in Austin.
