New Clay County Drug Dog

The newest member of the Clay County Sheriff's Office started work this morning.

Alpha, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, and Deputy Kirk Horton just returned from a 6-day-joint training in Kansas City.

The new drug dog was $12,500, and purchased using grant money, donations and drug money seized by clay county deputies. Sheriff Kenny Lemons says she will be an invaluable weapon in fighting drugs in his county.

"It's certainly another tool we use in law enforcement to find people who commit those types of crimes, and it is the center of all problems in my opinion," Lemons says.

The previous drug dog died recently. Alpha is the fourth drug dog in clay county since 1997. The first dog handler was sheriff kenny lemons when he was a deputy.
