New Jet Service Increasing Business at Municipal Airport

For years, Municipal Airport officials have pushed to get more Texomans to fly out of Wichita Falls.

And now, officials say thanks to the new jet service, business is starting to soar.

As passengers wait at Wichita Falls Municipal Airport many are actually looking forward to flying the friendly skies in the new regional jets.

On January 30th, the ERJ-145 replaced the prop jets and it is making many passengers happy.

"Having the engine in the back of the plane does make it quieter than having them under the middle of the plane. So, that obviously makes a difference," Air traveler SSgt. Chris Ackerman says.

"The prop plane was very, very bumpy... very loud. It wasn't very comfortable and the jets are a lot more... a lot speedier, faster and comfortable to work inside," adds Tim Dobson, who is returning to Cincinnati, OH.

Airport officials say the new jets have also virtually done away with flight delays.

"Flights are leaving on time. Flights are not getting canceled due to mechanical issues. It's been a really positive thing. People can count on flying out of Wichita Falls now," explains Municipal Airport Administrator LeAnn Moran.

Airport officials believe those positives have helped increase air travel here.

Since the new jet service started two months ago officials say seats on all three daily flights are full.

"Due to the increased passengers, people are wanting to fly more they are adding an additional afternoon flight starting April 3rd, so we're going to be going to four flights a day," says Moran.

Daily departures from Municipal Airport are at 8:50 a.m., 12:35 p.m. and 6:55 p.m.

Starting April 3rd, a fourth flight will be added.

Departure times will be 9:10 a.m., 1:55 p.m. and and 7:50 p.m., with a new afternoon departure flight time of 5:15 p.m.

So, the new jet service is making quite an impact at Municipal Airport.
