Jack County Judge Mitchell Davenport said County Commissioners accepted the resignation of long time Sheriff Danny Nash on Monday.

The resignation will take affect at midnight on April 28th.

County commissioners also appointed Chief Deputy Melvin Mayo as acting sheriff.

That appointment will take affect at 12:01am April 29th.

Judge Davenport said since Melvin Mayo was the only candidate for sheriff in the November election, Sheriff Nash decided to step down and let Mayo get a jump on his new duties.
