Olney police chief fired for misconduct

OLNEY - Olney City officials decided to terminate, now, former Police Chief Barry Roberts for misconduct Monday night.

According to City Secretary Tim Houston, Roberts was suspended with pay on Sept. 6 due to allegations raised against him.

The council went into a 30 minute closed session before informing the public, in open session, all the allegations against Roberts.

Mayor, Phil Jeske said, "Chief Roberts was found guilty while serving as Chief of Police for the city of Olney. He failed to effectively lead the department, train it's leaders in the department and effectively enforce and adhere to police department and city policies."

The vote was split halfway and Mayor Jeske made the final decision.

Roberts is also not eligible for rehire by the city.

Mayor Jeske added that the council will meet again to determine if current Interim Chief, Robert Cross, will permanently take on the position.
