Just as the weather is producing prime conditions for the mosquito and gnat populations to boom, Shoop said the red-headed ash borer population will also increase greatly this summer.
That means their primary food of choice in Texoma, mesquite trees, are in danger.
"Mesquite trees, people usually want to kill them," said Shoop, "but people who live out in the country that have them as their trees, they're in for a big surprise this year."
Shoop urges residents who have mesquite trees they want to save to contact a professional exterminator to find out which treatments will work best in their area.
