Stephens County Jail Hanging

A 42- year old man is dead after the Stephens County Sheriff says he hanged himself in their jail in Duncan.

It happened late Monday afternoon.

Sheriff, Wayne McKinney told the Duncan Banner, Clarence Arless Hill  III  wrapped a t-shirt around his neck and a cell column.

He said the shirt also caught on a toilet wall that stands about 3- feet high when Hill dropped down.

The sheriff said Hill was arrested that day at a store in Duncan, after an off- duty deputy saw him causing a disturbance while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or both.

Hill was put into a detox cell, and Sheriff McKinney told the Banner he hanged himself between the time he was checked on  at 4:25 and around 4:30.

After attempts to revive Hill, that continued on the way to Duncan Regional, he was pronounced dead.

The Stephens County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death inside its jail, as we still wait, after two days, to receive any information from Sheriff McKinney.
