The IRS said the delay was due to new checks they were putting in the system-- but that only affected the first 10 days of returns. Then the delays were blamed on a new screening tool used by the IRS, but once January 25th the IRS said they were back on track.
"They said now, the historical 21 days, which is the historical time that it had ever been 21 days was back when people filled every return out by paper and mailed it to the IRS, I have never see it 21 days as a historical day or amount of time to get a refund back," said Gene Naedu, Liberty Taxes
