HOUSTON - Three people were shot at a north Harris County college Tuesday, and a second suspect remains on the loose, officials said.
Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constables said the shooting happened at Lone Star College's North Harris campus, 2700 West W. W. Thorne Drive near Aldine Westfield, around 12:30 p.m.
Harris County sheriff's deputies and Lone Star College officials said three people were wounded. Ben Taub Hospital said received two patients. Memorial Hermann Hospital said one person was transported there by ambulance. The extent of those injuries was not released.
According to a tweet sent out by Lone Star College about 2 p.m., the shooting was a dispute between two individuals. The nature of the dispute has not been released.
"This is a very volatile and active scene at the Lone Star College. I can confirm we have one person in custody. Who that person is and what the role that person is I do not know at this time. We do have every possible resource from the Harris County Sheriff's Office at this location as well as other law enforcement agencies," said Christina Garza with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators said a suspect, an 18- to 20-year-old black male wearing a red shirt and Falcons cap, fled north of the campus to a nearby subdivision. Deputies are actively searching for him.
Armed Harris County sheriff's deputies searched buildings and vehicles for anyone who may be involved in the shooting.
A shelter-in-place was ordered at the college, but the campus was evacuated a short time later. The campus is closed to the public.
Aldine Independent School District officials said four nearby campuses, Dunn Elementary, Parker Intermediate, Nimitz 9th grade campus and Nimitz High, were placed on lockdown as a precaution. School district officials said there is no reason to believe a shooter is on any of those campuses, but the lockdown was issued for precautionary measures.
