Water Repair Letter Confusing Customers

The Beter Business Bureau is offering some advice to Wichita Falls residents who have received a letter regarding repairing a broken water line.

Last month, a water main break cut water to hundreds of customers near Sheppard Air Force Base.

The city repaired the line but now, some residents have recently received a letter from a company called HomeServe saying they are responsible for the maintenance and repair of their exterior water line.

While many think this is from their utility company or the State of Texas, BBB officials say it is not.

"This company is selling warranty products and they have several different products but the water line coverage is one of them and it's a situation where as a consumer, you just need to decide for yourself if it's something that you need or something that will benefit you but it is strictly a warranty. This solicitation is not coming from your local utility," says Monica Horton, president of the Better Business Bureau of North Central Texas.

Horton says if you have any questions it is best that you contact your homeowners insurance provider to see if your policy covers exterior water line maintenance and repairs.

But again, HomeService is offering an optional coverage.
