WFISD School Board Discusses Memorial Stadium Turf Replacement

Members of the Wichita Falls school board are trying to figure out the best way to proceed with replacing the turf at Memorial Stadium.
Today,  board members heard from Martin Litteken, with Cornerstone Engineering, who recently tested the soil.
Board member Bob Payton says Littekan's report recommends removing the asphalt layer underneath the carpet, and replacing the asphalt with layers of gravel.
Payton says besides this being a safety issue for students, the board is also concerned about surface longevity and overall stadium drainage.

"The thing to keep in mind that field is used about 170 times a year -- it's not just for a few football games. It's in constant use. And there's a lot of wear and tear, so we need to make sure we're making the best investment we can."
Payton says the board is hoping the project will cost less than 900- thousand dollars.
A few months ago, estimates were between 550 and 750 thousand.
