County Commissioners have already received budget proposals from all of the agencies who depend on county financing. Agencies like the county tax assessor, Sheriff's Office, and District Attorney's office.
Most agencies have requested pay increases for employees, but according to Judge Gossom, a tax increase to pay for those raises is unlikely.
Gossom said the best way for an agency to get raises for employees, is to free up money within their own budget or help generate their own revenue like the DA's office.
"The Criminal District Attorney has brought some new revenue in on a program I asked them to look at several years ago,"explained Judge Gossom, "and Mrs. Shelton picked that ball up and got it through and brought in close to $50,000 of new income to the County."
According to the budget proposed by the District Attorney, her office is requesting pay increases for 7 employees within the office.
Also, the Wichita County Sheriff's Office is requesting enough funding to hire four new deputies, three deputies for the patrol division and one to help with security at the Courthouse.
Sheriff David Duke is asking for just over $150,000 a year to pay for the new hires.
