Wichita County SKYWARN spotters are being asked to use a new frequency for a temporary period.

Recently, adjustments to the tower that broadcasts the communications have resulted in the need to change to a different frequency to keep communication flowing.  This line of communication can be critical during severe weather events.

Spotters using ham radio usually use 146.940 however they are being asked to change to 147.140 until further notice.

Wichita County SKYWARN spokesperson Charlie Byers said the change is expected to last until the tower can be repaired.

Initially the repair was not expected to take this long however due to weather conditions including high winds have caused delays as workers are not able to climb the tower.

Mr. Byers added that once the tower is repaired and the frequency returns to normal he would let us know and we will pass that information along to the public.
