Wichita Falls Stage 3 Water Violators to Face Stiff Fines

The city is officially in stage three drought restrictions and city officials say they are ready to enforce the rules.

The low water of Lake Arrowhead was the backdrop as city officials held a briefing Wednesday morning to talk about the critical need to conserve.

The lake is the city's biggest water source but now that the lake is at 40%, officials plan to fine violators who are caught not following stage three mandatory water conservation rules, which started early this morning at midnight.

"First offenses is $25 plus a $64 court cost. So, that's an $89 fine. If you get a second offense in stage three, it's a $500 fine plus the $64 court cost. So, $564," says Daniel Nix, Wichita Falls utilities operations manager.

Nix says for the third or any additional offense the fine more than doubles to $2,000 plus a $64 dollar court cost.

And Nix says violators will receive notices of their violations with orange door hangers.
