2014 FNF: TAPPS Preview

- When it comes to distance, Wichita Christian and Notre Dame couldn't be any further from their district mates.
The Knights and Stars were scheduled to be in a 5 team district this season with teams from Lubbock, El Paso, and Amarillo.
Now it is a 4 team district with Amarillo Holy Cross not being able to field a team.
Don Carlson is going into his 6th year as Notre Dame head coach.
He feels his team and Wichita Christian should have been grouped with teams in the Metroplex.
Don Carlson, Notre Dame Head Football Coach-"That would be an 8 team district and that would be playing 8 games and only having to find two non district games. I think there are so many people so far out west that they don't have a district. So they were needing some teams to fill that district."
Carlson's Knights return 9 letterman and plan on having at least 15 players.
It was another great regular season at Notre Dame.
They got their third straight 10 win season in 2013.
But when it came time for the playoffs, a familiar nemesis in Fredericksburg Heritage knocked them out of the playoffs for the third straight year.
Don Carlson, Notre Dame Head Football Coach-"I don't know. We are going to have to get over the hump. That is one time that has had our number the last three years. We are going to have to come in and have a positive attitude. We lost some pretty good players. We know we will have some pretty good player coming back. We are probably going to go in this year as the underdogs which is something we haven't done in a few years."
Meanwhile the Wichita Christian Stars were playoff bound last season.
They return several players and have a new head coach in Dan Neuse.
Neuse isn't new when it comes to coaching football.
Last season, Neuse was a football, basketball, and track coach at Zundy Junior High.
He was an assistant football coach at Hirschi and Midwestern State among other places.
Neuse replaces Kyle Davenport.
This is Neuse first time coaching 6 man football.
Dan Neuse, Wichita Christian Head Football Coach/AD-"Blocking is blocking and tackling is tackling, what every level they play it comes across on the football field. I am prejudice about football. It teaches so many good values. The kids we got coming back to Wichita Christian is a good nucleus."
The Knights and Stars will play each other in the last game of the season November 7th.
