Head Coach Hugh Farmer likes where he's at, "When I came down and interviewed and saw the kids i fell in love with them, they work hard. They seem like they want to do it." And Olney QB Taylor Thomas says the team is happy to have their new coach, "He's a really hard worker, that's stood out about him and he's definitely a team guy, he doesn't care who you are he wants the best 11 guys on the field.
Hugh farmer now takes the reigns as head coach of the Olney Cubs. Coming from a successful stint with the Fredrick Bombers. While there his teams lit up scoreboards across the sooner state. His spread offense is all the buzz for a team having had it's struggles in moving the ball in recent years. "We're wide open we spread it out we throw the ball a lot and we run it when we can so it's gonna be a lot different."
Keaton Mayers is one of the players learning the new offense. "It's a learning experience which is great, because it's not the same old thing all the time and we can do something new everyday."
Farmer says helping make the transition a little smoother is an 11 man senior class, Chock full of players who have taken the field the past two seasons..."We got a lot of kids that have played high school football and that's always a good thing we're excited about that and those guys are good leaders too. They come everyday and set a good example for the younger guys."
With a new coach and new scheme in Olney, Comes higher expectations for the 2013 cubs. Who have set their focus on clawing to the top of the district standings.. But coach farmer knows it'll be working on the little things these first weeks. Which will help this team reach their goals.
