First the new, the Tigers have a new head coach in Todd (doe-tee) Doughty from Meridian.
He's happy to be in Tiger country.
Todd Doughty, Electra head football coach-"Electra has a strong history. They have won a state championship in the mid 80's. They know what it takes to win. They are a hard working group of kids. The kids have been very supportive of what we are trying to do. I am excited to be here."
Also new for Electra...Learning new offensive and defensive schemes.
Tre Jones, Electra senior offensive lineman-"Offensively we can do a lot of things. We are very flexible. We have a lot of skills guys. We are bigger and stronger than we were last year. We have a lot of guys that we can fill in those spots so I think we will be very good there."
Doughty-"Our kids are very receptive to what we are doing. They genuinely like each other. There's no animosity going on. As far as people worrying about who's getting the ball and who is carrying the ball. So that's been really nice."
That feeling has led to good chemistry with the team throughout the offseason and preseason work outs.
The Tigers finished 6-4 in 2013.
It was the second straight season with a winning record.
However, when it came to the playoffs they were on the outside looking in.
Missing the playoffs for the first time in 3 seasons
This year, Electra is in a tougher district with Munday, Seymour, and Hamlin.
All three teams were in the playoffs last season.
The Electra Tigers feel they have what it takes to get back into the playoffs.
Jones-"I feel we can have a successful season. I have a lot of confidence in my team mates and the coaches."
Doughty-"Anytime you are at a school our size we have to stay healthy. I think our ability to make adjustments at halftime especially with a new scheme. We are going to have to make some adjustments and to clearly communicate those adjustments are going to be a big key for us."
Jones-"We are going to have to fly to the ball and show a little heart. Don't every give up and we are going to fight to the end."
Electra's fight for the playoffs begins August 29th at Henrietta.
