On the one year anniversary of her death Tessa's friends and family gathered to remember her life. And they hope others will learn from the tragic accident that took her life. Friends and family of Tessa say she had a bubbly personality that could light up a room and bring a smile to anyone's face.
"It makes me proud to say that that's my big sister like I am the little sister of somebody who touched so many people's lives in the short 16 1/2 years that she was on this earth," said Tessa's little sister, Samantha Price.
"She did a have a good life, she was so looking forward to getting in to college and graduating this year," said Louann Tasker, a close family friend of Tessa.
Her life was cut short on February 13th last year after a drunk driver crashed into Tessa and her boyfriend, Andrew Johns. Police say the driver Myron Robinson had a blood alcohol level of .24, three times the legal limit. On the one year anniversary Tessa's family and friends gathered where she is laid to rest.
"She wouldn't want any of us to be upset, or to mourn over her. Just to be happy like she was," said Price.
Those who loved Tessa hope her death will serve as a reminder of the real-life dangers of drinking and driving.
"Any time somebody talks about doing that or going to a party, I'll ask them how they plan on getting home they are like well I'll drive, and it's like I kind of go into lecture mode," said Price.
Tessa's friends even designed a shirt many of them wear to remind others how quickly drinking and driving could become deadly.
And as the healing continues for those who knew Tessa. They ask you to think, "Are you willing to pay the price?" the next time you get behind the wheel intoxicated.
Those shirts are being sold for for $12 and $2 is being donated to Mothers Against Drunk Driving. So far, a little more than 100 have been sold. If you would like to purchase one go to the " Are You Willing to Pay the Price?" Facebook page, or you can contact Tim Puckett at Heritage Church at 767-5333.
