Seven games, seven wins.
And now we'll be delivering a plaque to Graham because they've earned our honor as Team of the Week.
A 49-20 district-opening victory over then state-ranked Vernon earns the Graham Steers our honor as Team of the Week.
Typically the focus of such a story would be on the Steers.
Unless you're dealing with Graham head coach Kenny Davidson.
His approach to praise his team is to point out the quality of the opponent his team had just beaten.
"These guys are so explosive," says Davidson. "I can't say enough about Vernon and how tough they are. They can score at any time with their speed. They execute well. Coach Bateman has really got this team playing tough. There is so much heart on that Vernon team to come out and battle like like and execute well so my hats off to the Vernon Lions."
The Steers led 21-13 at halftime, but the Lions were one yard away from potentially going to the break tied.
A fumble, and a Steers recovery protected an 8-point lead.
The Steers put on a clinic in the second half outscoring the Lions 28-7 with quarterback Ben Davis throwing four of his seven touchdown passes.
"We didn't change anything," says wide receiver Bryce Reeves. "The first half we were being undisciplined and didn't do what we're coached to do. In the second half we came out and did what we were coached to do. What we worked on all week."
"The defense played good once they came back from the second half," says Davidson. "We made a lot of mistakes early. Really our offensive line set the tone. Of course Ben (Davis) staying in there and finding open receivers and Bryce Reeves and on and on...Cam Patterson. It was a team effort and the offense just played great."
Reeves finished the night with five catches, three for scores.
Patterson who entered the game with three catches caught three more, two for touchdowns.
And the Steers are 7-0, more importantly, they start district with a win.
"They're a good team and our district looks good this year," says quarterback Ben Davis. "I think going 1-0 in district will give us a good output for upcoming games. And a work ethic. I think it will give us confidence too."
