Team of the Week May 22nd, 2014:Windthorst Trojanettes Softball

- Our team of the week the Windthorst Trojanettes got past a team last weekend that has given them trouble in the softball playoffs.
Before this season, in 3 of the past 4 years the Albany Lady Lions ended the Trojanettes season.
Last Saturday it was Windthorst giving Albany the boot in the playoffs.
Jermaine Ferrell reports on the Trojanettes big win as they push to get back to state.
Since 2010, Albany and Windthorst have linked up in the 1A softball playoffs 4 times.
In 2010, 2011, & 2013 it was the Lady Lions coming out on top.
This year was different as the Trojanettes broke through and sent the Lady Lions home in a convincing 2 game sweep.
Lonnie Hise, Windthorst Head Softball Coach------"Albany is well coached. Coach (Jimmy)Fuentes does a great job. Those kids are ready to play. And everybody knows it. To get over that hump is big. We are ready to go onto what is next."
Cy Schroeder, Windthorst Sophomore Pitcher-----"We felt like we had the better team all around. Nothing against Albany they are a great team we knew that if we came out how we are capable we knew we would come out with a win."
Both games were close early, but timely hitting opened up the games for Trojanettes to win the series.
Another big key was the pitching of Sophomore Cy Schroeder.
During the series she was in a couple of bases loaded jams.
But she pitcher her way out of it.
Cy says she drew from her experiences in club ball to help in those situations.
Schroeder-------"I really don't have a problem. I don't get nervous. I just focus on the batter. I have full confidence on the defense. I went after them and it worked out."
Hise----"Friday night was the best I seen her pitch all year. She had the ball moving. She was hitting her targets. And when that happens she is hard to hit."
Now that they have gotten past Albany, the focus shifts to their regional final match up with Petrolia.
The lady pirates knocked the Trojanettes out of the playoffs in 2012.
If the band of sisters get past Petrolia, they are state bound for the first time since 2005.
That's when they won their second straight state title.
Schroeder----"We love each other. We have so much fun together. I feel we play as a team we pray on everything. We have devotionals. We are comfortable with each other."
Hise----2004 & 2005 they have won state. They have been close to get back 2 or 3 years. They haven't got back. That is where we are hoping to go to get back to Austin.
