What a great way to start off a playoff run.
The underdog Vernon Lions showed they were kings of the playoff jungle after they pounced on the Mineral Wells Rams early and often in their one game bi-district playoff last Friday in Bowie.
Vernon got out to a 5-0 lead and held on to get a 5-3 upset win over the Rams.
Robby Spencer, Vernon Head Baseball Coach--------"It was real exciting game. Our kids came out ready to play and got out to a good start. It was fun and when it was all over the kids were happy and proud. And our fans were excited."

Zack Perez, Vernon Senior Perez-----It was pretty exciting. We came out started off well in the first inning. Came out an started hitting the ball. When I scored the first run. We just started to hit the ball and kept it going throughout the whole game.

Next stop in the playoff parade for the Lions is a 3 game area round series with Alvarado in Jacksboro beginning Friday.
The players and coaches feel last weeks win is a big boost in their drive to win a state title.

Zack Perez, Vernon Senior Perez----------"It is pretty special. I don't want it to end we are going to do our best to keep it going."

Robby Spencer, Vernon Head Baseball Coach--------"Going into the next round we can play with the best of them we can get out there and limit their walks and get a few timely hits. It will work out for us.
