The Mustangs open the season Friday night against Southwestern Oklahoma State as part of the SWOSU Classic in Weatherford. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. MSU closes the weekend Saturday against East Central (Okla.).
Senior guard Monzaigo Williams paced a pack four starters in double figures with 18 points rounding out an all-around performance with seven assists, five rebounds and three steals.
And it was Williams who fueled getting the Mustangs out on the run at the start of the second half, but it was the 3-ball that was MSU's weapon of choice during the run.
Senior guard Cam Adderley connected on a trey for his first field goal of the game at the 17:36 mark then Williams teed up a 3-pointer at the top of the key, Tavarion Nix converted an alley-oop and DeJuan Plummer canned a trey from the right wing to give the Mustangs a 54-32 lead at the 11:17 mark.
Midwestern continued to pull away leading by as many as 36 when Cory Bennett canned his second trifecta from the corner for an 88-52 bulge with 1:33 to play.
Senior forward Eddie D'Haiti connected on 5-of-6 shots to finish with 14 points in 20 minutes, while junior guard Derrell Gibbs canned four 3s to close with 12 points and Adderley chipped in 10 points and snared six boards.
Senior forward Derek Kaster had nine points and five rebounds while Plummer and Bennett added seven points each off of the bench.
The Mustangs turned up the defensive pressure on Langston holding the Lions to a 27.5-percent shooting night while forcing LU into 21 turnovers. MSU outscored the Lions 18-2 on the break.
Landon Gray paced Langston with 18 points and six rebounds.
