The Bearcats defeated Mildred, a state semifinalist team from last season.
For getting the upset win last Friday night, the Henrietta football team gets our team of the week award.
Excitement could be seen and heard through out Brewer Bear Stadium in Fort Worth last Friday.
The back and forth battle between the underdog Henrietta Bearcats and Mildred ended in favor of the black and gold.
"It is a coaches dream, and a heart attack. We get behind and get one of those Conner interceptions. It put us in a situation to score before half time and get some momentum rolling,"said Henrietta Head Football Coach Byron West.
"It feels so great when you can work hard every week and all year. And you have been fighting and a lot of people have been picking us under a lot of people. And we come out an beat a good team like that. It feels great to show them what we are made of ,"said Henrietta Defensive Back Conner Fletcher.
Our athlete of the week Conner Fletcher was one of many Bearcats to make a big contribution in the upset.
Fletcher got 3 interceptions and forced the big fumble on the goal line to seal up the win.
"It is kinda like being at the right place at the right time. This week to make sure we are in the right place at the right time. And we took advantage of those things. We were getting those interceptions, I have to give credit to the defensive line. I would not have gotten those interceptions if they didn't rush the quarterback.and the goal line stand was big of course,"said Fletcher.
Now that the Bearcats got their first playoff win in four years, just how far can Henrietta go in the playoffs?
"We are the underdog, we have been the underdog all season. It hasn't bothered them at all. I think it is up to them. If we can go and hang in with these guys and play well change our game and go win the sky's the limit but it is up to them,"said West
