The Nighthawks will be owned and operated by local businessman Drew Carnes. “The product that we put out on the field is going to be the highest quality of football to ever be played in Wichita Falls,” stated Carnes. “When investigating the different leagues that are out there, it became very clear that the IFL was the best fit for the mission and values of our organization.”
The Nighthawks will begin play next spring during the 2015 IFL season. The team is in the final stages of completing a lease agreement with the Kay Yeager Coliseum. Construction of the 7,300-seat arena was completed in 2003.
“The league is very excited to welcome Drew [Carnes], Nighthawks Nation, and the Wichita Falls community into the IFL,” stated IFL Commissioner Mike Allshouse. “After getting to know Drew and understanding his vision and goals for not only the team, but also the entire community, I believe that this is the beginning to a very long and successful relationship.”
The Nighthawks have already initiated a nation wide search to fill its front office and head coaching positions. Additional announcements about the team will be made in the coming weeks.
The IFL, a professional indoor football league, will begin its seventh season of play in the spring of 2015.
