"I have to get up early in the morning to practice the piano. And run track during school and after school. So I do not have time to practice in the evenings. So I have to get up in the mornings," Bryson runner Riley Smith explained.
"It is not easy sometimes. The piano sometimes get left by the way side. But we figured out to get her up early before school. And sometimes she practices it after she gets done with track. But she is not happy getting up in the morning. She gets it done," her mom Pam Smith said.
And Riley is getting it done on the track making beautiful music in the 1600 and 3200 meters. The sophomore qualified for the state track meet in both events.
She finished 6th in the 1600 meters and in the 3200 meters she came in 6th place running her best time of the season.
When it comes to the piano, she was state bound in that as well as she qualified for the UIL music competition.
Last month, Smith for got a top rating of 1 for her piano solo.
She is using that piano talent at her church. When the church lost their piano player, Riley stepped in to fill the role.
Riley has big goals for track and music. On the track she wants to get a medal to add to her piano gold medal.
"It is exciting because I love to do both things. Bryson doesn't have a band or anything. Doing the music is pretty cool. Going to state in track, I like running too," said Riley.
"She puts a lot of heart into everything she does. She is a perfectionist. She wants to do everything perfect. She is not satisfied unless everything is perfect on everything she does," her mom told us.
Riley says she would like to get a scholarship and major in music and teach music in school.
