Bowie Memorial Hospital Looking for Partnership

Bowie Memorial Hospital board and CEO decide to submit request for proposals in search for possible partnership.
Bowie Memorial Hospital could soon be under new co- ownership.

The hospital's board and interim CEO Lynn Heller sent out a request for proposals from different hospitals and companies to consider a possible partnership.

Heller says a partnership would benefit the hospital and the community.

"We have an obligation to provide the best healthcare that we can but we have to have the resources to do that... and saving a good partner will enable us to take care of our mission," Heller says.

Heller says they've made the decision to send out a request for proposals to nine different hospitals and healthcare companies across Texas, including United Regional, to see if they would like to buy, lease, manage or affiliate with them.

"What we are trying to do through the request for proposal is to make the hospital stronger and better not close the hospital and honestly, I hope it doesn't sell, that wouldn't be my preference, but nevertheless, everything is on the table," Heller says.

Also, Heller says most rural hospitals in Texas have "Critical Access" designation from the government that provides additional reimbursement for medicare and most get a hospital tax to help support the hospital but Bowie Memorial has neither.

He says because costs of operations are tight, they've been evaluating their finances and selling some assets.

"Every different option that we need to pursue from being a fiscal responsible employer and manager of the hospital, we need to do," Heller says.

Heller says partnering with another healthcare provider will help Bowie Memorial grow and develop but most importantly, continue serving the community.

Any healthcare providers interested in a partnership with Bowie Memorial will have to submit their proposal by Aug. 15 at 5 p.m.
