Congressman Mac Thornberry is now in the running to take over as chairman of the House of Representatives Armed Services Committee after the committee's Chairman, Buck McKeon, announced on Thursday afternoon he is not seeking re-election.
Thornberry is currently the House Armed Services committee's vice chairman.
In a statement, Thornberry says he looks forward to visiting with his colleagues on the Steering Committee about succeeding McKeon in the coveted military committee leadership spot.
During his retirement announcement, McKeon endorsed Thornberry as his successor.
Also, Thornberry will be live at KFDX News at 10 p.m. on Sunday, Jan 19.
He will be talking about everything from the Affordable Care Act to the budget deal that just passed.
