A Burkburnett man is found guilty in an animal cruelty case that authorities testify is one of the worst they've ever seen.

A Wichita County Court at Law #2 jury found Juan Almendarez Jr. guilty of cruelty to non-livestock animals, torture.

According to court records, last July, authorities found a dog on the porch of his home in the 400 block of North Holly Rd.

They say the dog had been left there with no food or water in 100-plus degree heat for several days.

Records state the dog's fur had fallen out, he had open sores on his body, and bugs had eaten one of his eyes.

He was taken to the Burkburnett animal shelter, but died the next day.

An arrest affidavit states Almendarez and a woman stopped taking care of the dog because they didn't want to pay veterinarian bills.

Almendarez will be sentenced following the outcome of a pre-sentence investigation report.
