Altus Air Force Base Wins Major Award

Altus Air Force Base is not just a good Air Force installation. It's not even just a great one.
Altus Air Force Base is not just a good Air Force installation. It's not even just a great one. It is now the best.

The Air Force has announced Altus has won the Air Force's Commander in Chief's Excellence Award. With the award as the best base comes a little reward, $1 million dollars to be spent as the base sees fit to improve quality of life.

97th Air Mobility Wing Command Colonel Bill Spangenthal said the award confirms what he already knew--he commands the best active duty, reserve, and civilian force in the nation.

Altus competed against the much larger Travis Air Force Base, California in the finals. Altus will now be entered in the Commander in Chief's Best Military Installation Competition.

Colonel Spangenthal says he plans to allow his entire team at Altus to have a voice in some of the things the prize money will be spent on.
