Altus Police are trying to unravel an apparent home invasion and shooting in which the resident and the burglar were both shot with numerous questions.

Altus Deputy Police Chief Michael Bell says around 9 last night police responded to a double shooting on North Jackson.

Police say the resident and his girlfriend said two men broke in through the front door, one armed with a handgun, the other with a shotgun.

After the resident and his girlfriend were ordered to lie on the floor, Bell says the resident got up and grabbed the handgun from one of the men, a struggle ensued, and shots were fired.

Bell says one suspect was hit twice in the abdomen, and the resident was shot in the foot.

Both suspects fled, but the wounded one was found by police next door.

Both the homeowner and suspect are still in the hospital and no charges have been filed.

The second suspect is still being sought.

Bell says the two residents have not been very forthcoming or helpful in the investigation.

He says he found the handgun about a block from the scene last night, where it was thrown into some bushes by the resident on his way to the hospital.
