Archer City Senior Runs for Mayor

Archer City Senior Runs for Mayor

After graduation a senior at Archer City High School plans to represent his community, by becoming Mayor.

High school senior, Kelvin Green will be the next Archer City Mayor

No other candidate filed to run for mayor, which means the city will not have an election and he will take the position by default

--Update---

Spring semester for high school seniors usually means a lot of planning for college or careers.

I am going to be applying to Vernon College for the two year nursing degree,” said Archer City High School senior, Amber White.

I am going to apply to be in the air conditioning business,” said Tyler Scrogum, another senior at ACHS.

Kelvin Greens plans are a little less mainstream.

I am going to be around archer so I thought I might go ahead and run for mayor,” he said.

At the ripe age of 18 he's launching his political career.

Kelvin was born right here in Archer City. He says the best way to give back to his community is by running for mayor, and now that he's filed his papers, there is only one thing left to do.

Campaign. A relatively easy task in a town that's watched him grow up.

So he would be perfect for the mayor deal because I have groomed him for this job because I have chewed his butt out since he was seven years old. So when he comes into mayor he won't have no problem,” said Clay Reid, Kelvin's football coach.

Kelvin's campaign platform is a blank slate, he says it's better than the alternative.

If you have an agenda you say you are going to do this and you are going to do something different and that's when you are going to start to get people mad at you, and that is what I am trying to stay far away from. I want to make everyone as happy as I can and just be the voice of the city,” he said.

For a city he loves.

Just like the city loves him.

Kelvin is the only person who has filed to run for mayor of Archer City so far, but potential opponents still have time to file.

The deadline is February 28th.
