Backstage at the Emmys

<br>Mark Barger shows us what some of the Emmy winners were saying last night backstage.
QUITE AN EMMY DEBUT FOR THE CONSPIRACY SAGA "HOMELAND" SUNDAY NIGHT.   THE FIRST YEAR SHOW BEAT OUT "MAD MEN" FOR TOP DRAMA HONORS AS WELL AS BEST ACTRESS FOR CLAIRE DANES.

AND BEST ACTOR FOR DAMIAN LEWIS.

"It succeeds in being a thriller. A thrill ride, a white knuckle ride. People like, it turns out, to be made to feel anxious on a Sunday night and get sweaty palms. Who knew?"

AMONG THOSE CAUGHT UP IN THE SHOW'S STORY ABOUT A MARINE POSSIBLY TURNED TERRORIST IS PRESIDENT OBAMA.

"It's way cool that he's a fan. I think it just speaks to the relevancy of the show and it's hugely validating."

nats "Modern Family"

VALIDATION IN THE FORM OF A THIRD STRAIGHT EMMY AS BEST COMEDY FOR "MODERN FAMILY". THE SERIES ALSO BROUGHT JULIE BOWEN HER SECOND AWARD AS BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS FOR A ROLE THAT'S IMPACTED HER OWN REAL LIFE PARENTING.

"You don't have to look at every single crayon drawing and say, 'We're framing it'. I'm allowed to go through the crayon drawings and say, is it a treasure, or is it disappearing tonight in the magical trash can?"

KEVIN COSTNER'S ALSO A PARENT TO THREE YOUNG CHILDREN...AND HE EXPECTS THEM TO BE SURPRISED BY HIS BEST ACTOR EMMY FOR "HATFIELDS AND MCCOYS".

"I'm not certain they know I'm an actor. My 5 year old and my 3 year old think I'm in construction because of the building of the homes we're doing right now."

AN EMMY COLLECTION IS WHAT'S BUILDING FOR JULIA LOUIS DREYFUSS. BEST ACTRESS FOR THE HBO COMEDY "VEEP" IS HER THIRD EMMY, EACH ONE FOR A DIFFERENT SERIES.

"I need an Advil. I have a headache. I can't believe it. I'm very thrilled. And moved."

A SENTIMENT NO DOUBT COMMON AMONG THE NIGHT'S OTHER EMMY WINNERS.
